Heuck Quality Fish Cooking Tester strips are a blessing to my kitchen. I am not the greatest cook - there, I admitted it. I have a few dishes I like to make, and I stay pretty close to that repertoire. Fish is one of those mainstay entrees I like to count on, since my roommate doesn't eat a whole lot of red meat anymore (something about getting old and it gets harder to digest - I dunno; he's old, not me). The problem I was having, whether using a stove top fry pan, a poaching method, or microwaving, was that I was never sure if I had cooked all the way through, and although we both adore sushi, if it's not what you ordered, you're not really prepared for it. And i hated tearing apart the piece of fish to test to see if all sections had been cooked. A packet of these sticks were left behind in this house when we bought it from the previous owners; I finally decided to be smart and give them a try. White with printing on the side when you first use them, the tip is blank white when you initially use the stick. When ready to test your fish, you insert one stick into the center of the piece. If it has reached proper cooking temperature all the way through, a green square will appear at the end of the stick you inserted, clearly indicating when it's done all the way through so no more over-cooking and no more under-cooking.

They come in a packet of six and are NOT reusable, so if you try them and like them, stock up, which is what I am about to do. Finally, I feel more confident about the way my meals will come out prepared - although they don't warn you if the fish has bones in it or not...Perfectly simple to use, a bargain of a price for the certainty it gives you (and help in avoiding cases of food poisoning from under-cooked food), I can't believe no one has recommended this product before. You might think it trivial, but why drag out a big heavy piece of metal (thermometer) for a perhaps improper reading when this gives you an instantaneous result for an entire piece of fish with just one stick. I hope my kitchen will never go without these handy items again; and it's about the one thing the guys who sold us this house didn't mess with us on!

If it has been updated or featured somewhere, I would still purchase this product, as long as is performs the same way as it did when it was "Heuck Quality Fish Cooking Tester". I feel that confident in this product. Stick it in, it turns green immediately (and it's reusable UNTIL it turns green with your handy confirmation green box), and you're assured of a well-cooked cut of fish. Yum.
