I've waited almost a year before writing this review because I believe it takes that long to really test a grate for warping, etc.

This grate really does the job. The original was a source of irritation because it simply couldn't take the heat of normal grilling and high temperature cleaning without warping.

This one is much better. At the same time I bought these grates, I bought the stainless flavorizer gizzies. They, too, are worth the extra money.

I'm "REALLY!" in to a healthier lifestyle, and subscribe to "several" respected health e-zines.

1. 15+ years ago I read tests that charcoal BBQ's, really put "LOTS" of very bad carciniogens into your meat!

2. So I went to a gas BBQ. Not as good tasting as charcoal, but "SUPPOSEDLY" healthier?

NOT!- Now I read tests that gas BBQ's are little healthier than charcoal. The "deadly" carciniogens are in the drippings smoke- coming from the hot lava rocks below!

3. So I now go to the MECO electric grill.

Pros-

a. Healthier- as virtually no smoke (grill/elements are steeply slanted, and drippings collect in a handy pan under the grill).

b. No having to mess with expensive propane gas...

c. Well made, and sturdy.

d. Low fire danger- Acceptable for most apartment complexes. ASK!

e. Sears steaks well (preheat on high for 15+ min, and close lid FAST! Requires a "Heavy Duty" electric outlet!). Cooks just as fast (or faster) than gas. BUT, "NO!" BBQ taste! You will probably need a marinade...

Good "web search" recipe I found for steaks...-

I pre-mix & rub in, a blend of-

salt ("AlsoSalt"- is very healthy and GOOD tasting!), black pepper, chili powder (all in equal parts...), and a little cayenne pepper. You can also add any other seasonings you like, to taste...

PAM makes a "High Temp" cooking spray, for the grill.

4. Cons-

a. This is difficult and time consuming (2+ hours! & I'm VERY handy!), to assemble!

Tips- Pounding on the axel end caps was a challenge (finally laid it on it's side, and put a 1/4 drive socket (for backing, on the other end) & hold cap with pliers.

You will surely drop screws... (I put an old sheet underneath it).

Barbecue Tote 3Pc Review

The Good: Price, size and the case. I bought this set for about $12 on a special. Nowhere in the description does it tell you about the size. Each piece is about 18 inches long. I consider that a nice size for BBQ tools. Also of note is the carrying case. It's nylon with a fair bit of padding in it. This will help protect them when not in use. The case has nylon straps that are adjustable too. I give the case 5 stars.

The Bad: In the item description it says that the spatula is serrated.... it is not! The only thing I could cut with this is soft butter.

The Ugly: The wood finish! And gold colored rivets. One of my hobbies is refinishing wood, so I have a tendency to be a bit overcritical. The wood was not sanded properly before it was stained. The stain was put on unevenly, leaving heavy streak marks in several places. I won't say that they didn't put on a protective sealer, but in some places it is very hard to detect.

About the rivets...just call me nitpicky. You have a beautiful stainless steel finish but the rivets are a fake color of gold. (Remember the gold stars your teacher gave you in school...same color).

Overall I am very happy with this set for now. But it will get refinished as soon as summer is over.

Update: Didn't wait until summer was over to do the refinishing. After stripping and sanding we found some very pretty wood. Instead of using stain to change the color we rubbed in several coats of natural oils to enhance the wood. The stripping also took the gold coloring off the rivets. They are really beautiful now.

So far I am happy with my purchase. On the down side it took 2 weeks to get here and when I started it up the gas line had been sliced in transit on the sheet metal parts. However, the good side was their warranty was prompt in replacing the line, which again took over a week. The BBQ looks good, was about $300 cheaper than what was available in my town plus it had 2 other features that the others didn't have ( rotisserie and side burner). My last BBQ was by the same manufacturer and lasted me 10 yrs. When I took that one out of use, it was still working fine, just looked very used.
