Char-Broil American Gourmet Review

This smoker is a small version of one a friend of mine purchased at Home Depot. I didn't purchase the larger one because it is extremely heavy. This smoker is very light and easy to put together. It does an adequate job of smoking fish and other smaller items. The negative things I have found are: (1) the firebox seems to get very hot on the left side near the air vent but the fire tends to burn slowly or go out on the right side, away from the air vent; (2) the thin construction of the unit makes for uneven temperatures throughout the indirect cooking part of the unit and (3) I have only used the unit five times and the paint is peeling extensively from the firebox container. I would say that the unit is worth the price and is a decent trade-off if you are looking for a lightweight unit. For smoking things like turkeys, however, I would recommend the larger, heavier unit.

We have had the bigger $100+ grills for years. They last for about 5 years and rust out or something. Decided to try something different. We generally only cook for two so the table top idea seemed worth a shot. For $29 why not. Did have a problem. Right out of the box the regulator didn't work. I called Charbroil and after I sent them proof of purchase they sent a new one out straight away. The only design beef I have is that lighting it is a little bit challenging. We'll figure it out.

Char-Broil Santa Fe Charcoal Grill Review

This is not the fanciest grill on the market, but a deal for the price. I bought this grill 8 years ago at Lowes for $100. It has been outside in the elements the entire time (snow, ice and rain). I've never covered it. It's rusted, but completely functional. We grill out frequently in all seasons. It has a very large cooking surface. I've had deck parties and grilled for 25 people easily. The grill grate is covered with a non-stick surface and is still in perfect condition. It cleans very easily. The pan for the charcoal is a flat piece of sheet-metal that can be raised and lowered to 3 or 4 different levels. Honestly, it doesn't allow for good air circulation. After a couple years I ditched it and used some fire brick to elevate a separate grate in the bottom for the charcoal. Works brilliantly. The wood on this thing is bamboo and will not hold up. So, you'll have to replace it after a season in the elements. Or, you could just cover it or bring it inside. The thermometer is useless. It has cheap plastic wheels, but they have held up reasonably well.

Overall, I've got my money's worth 3 or 4 times over out of this grill. I would not hesitate to recommend it if this is your price range and you are looking for a large charcoal grill.

There is one flaw I didn't mention: this grill didn't hold up well when my wife backed into it with her car. Sadly, I had to retire it to the junk yard today.

I used to try to add smoke flavor when grilling by building a little boat out of aluminum foil, dumping soaked woodchips on it, and putting it in the middle of my coals.This gadget allows me to generate a lot more smoke for better flavors, and it's easier and faster to use. You can dump a lot more wood into this thing than with some improvised device, and it's easy to clean out. The size is just right for my small Hasty-Bake griller.I feel silly for having fumbled with foil for so long! I purchased 2 of these. One as a gift, one for myself. It appears to be a bit of a crap shoot in terms of quality of the cases, the mail reason I purchased them. One of the cases was just fine. Not amazing quality, but certainly ok. The other was sew poorly and quite crooked resulting in an inability to store as much "extras" in one versus the one better sewn. Definitely only worth a price of about $25 or less for the set

The case does hold a number of extra things, ie a long nosed lighter, a knife with protective cover, some foil and a dishtowel. Nice for storage if nothing else. I don't think i'd want to put the dirty utinsils back in the case without wrapping the used parts in foil or saran wrap of grilling at a remote location without the ability to wash things up first. The case is not meant to be cleaned easily, simply used for transport and storage.

The tools themselfs have a good feel to them. The brush was the only piece that was sub par and looked like a used broom. Probably won't last more than a few uses and may loose pieces of the brush onto the food. I replaced my with a silicone one that is of a similar look.

I have medium female hands. All tools felt comfortable in my hands and worked well on the grill. No complaints there. You can easily swithch things out if you're using it at a remote location and only transport items you plan to use. i.e. leave the kabab things at home and put in something else. The case really is nice for transport, just wish it were better made. So far it's lasted one season with fairly regular use.

CoMet Lightweight 11lb Propane Cylinder Blue Wave with Level Gauge Review

Every time I had to refill my propane tank, I asked myself why we keep carrying this old rusty piece of steel around. It stain the carpet of the trunks, falls, hurts our hands, etc... Not civilized at all. We don't do that with anything else! So I went over the Internet (yes, I buy a lot of things over the Internet) and started looking for new solutions. Among some different options, although non-corrosive,this Lightweight CoMet Cylinder for Propane seemed the best looking one and has a protected steel core.
I got it 2 days after ordering it. The empty weight is unbelievable (around 10lb). Went with it to the local filling station and had no problem to fill it. The filler was amazed with it. Handles are extremely comfortable. The valve has the same connection and all the safety features as the normal propane cylinder valve, so no problem connection to my grill. In addition, there is a level gage on the valve handle that turns fully green (from red) when filled and when used on the grill. I assume it is going red when the propane is down.
As it has a wider base, it just doesn't fall during transport.
Comparing with my old steel cylinder, the only disadvantage is the quantity of propane you can fill which is lower, but I really don't care when you take into consideration all the troubles with the old steel cylinders

Connoisseur Button Dial Thermometers (Set of 4) Review

First of these glow in the dark which is great for me cause I am often grilling after sun down with dim lighting around my grill area. You also get a nice holder for them when not in use. They seem to be pretty accurate which is good cause I am not the best griller and before I got these I would always over or under cook everything.
